I am not familiar with blogs. the ones about the stories was fun to read. Sometimes you need a little humor. The one from the universite of Arizona was interesting to read other peoples life stories about what they have done in Nursing and where they are today.

I can't really say they have any weaknesses. I don't know that they are useful from an education perspective. For leisure or a good laugh they might be useful.

Popped in from my site meter and wanted to say thanks for including me in your list of nurse blogs! I also attend college through "distance learning". I would welcome any and all comments to my blog and any suggestions as to content students would like to see!

I'm embarassed to say, but I had only read celebrity gossip bloggs prior to today. My little guilty pleasure :)
I really did enjoy reading head-nurse and code-nurse blogs. The humor and the shared experiences were great to read. These blogs are a way to feel a bond with nurses around the world.

I really did enjoy reading head-nurse and code-nurse blogs. The humor and the shared experiences were great to read. These blogs are a way to feel a bond with nurses around the world. The only weakness I see is nursing blogs are probably only read by other nurses. I would like to see a nursing blog that could help out the general public. Even though the stories are funny to other nurses, they may be offensive to everyday people.

I guess I have to say that I don't find the blogs very useful. This coming from someone who doesn't enjoy chat rooms either. Some of the stories are antecdotely interesting, but not helpful for educating myself or patients. I think that we have to be careful about taking each other ideas for practice and making them our own before making sure that they are evidence based techniques. On a lighter note, I realize that sometimes it's just nice to hear that other's have been where you are at.

I have never intentionally visited a blog. I prefer to not use e-mail for communication. However, I love the availability of the internet for 24 hour access to information.

I don't feel blogs are useful for professional communication. Since your identity is hidden, credibility of information is in question. I think they do have entertainment value. I enjoyed reading a several of the blogs. Others were not as interesting to me.

One value to blogs is it can provide a forum to linking to other info. If your blog is entertaining, these informative links may be seen by others. Then, the value of the link could be analyzed by those choosing to visit it.

A girl I worked with a went to high school has a blog I follow, as she is a high-risk pregnancy with triplets. I have to follow her life through the blog, as she lives in Ohio http://hummelnest.blogspot.com/
I enjoyed looking through the blogs, but it was more of personal indulgence than about true educational learning. I did like http://heidihappyjoy.blogspot.com/ as it sounded as if a good friend had wrote it.

I feel that blogs are fun like MySpace or other sites, but mostly for fun. I think a real time site like WebMD with a "live" person would be helpful for questions or direct interaction A log of these interactions could be posted afterwards, like when one contacts Dell computers for tech help. The blogs were fun to visit, especially since it was a requirement of the course.

I have never visted blogs until today. I think that blogging our clinical days for each other to read would be interesting and provide useful feedback.

I think that these nursing blogs can be very helpful. It is nice to interact with other future nurse practioners. There was some good information also. Thank you for sharing.

As with some of the others who have commented, I too had not visited a blog until today. I feel they could be a great reflective journal of events that tend to weigh heavily on our minds. I'm sure all nurses have these issues. It could be a great way to resolve inner conflict as well. Might save a few sleepless nights!

I knew "blogs" existed before today but never took the time to read them. I must confess, once I started reading these, I couldn't stop!! I loved reading about other nurses' experiences. It is good to know that other nurses have felt the way I feel about certain situations. The blogs give a sense of comeraderie/bonding, but I do think you need to make some decisions on evidence-based research rather than from a blog. Once again as we learned in this module, if the author can hide, and there is no credible evidence behind what he/she says, you must be careful believing the information!! Therefore, a blog's usefulness is questionable other than to bond with others, laugh at their experiences, or learn from others' mistakes.

Reading the blogs was a completely new experience for me. I am a little embarrassed to say that I enjoyed and even chuckled at a few of the stories. I found the blog a useful means for nurses to communicate meaningful lessons form patient care experiences. The ability to express frustration, diasappointment, concern, humor, and uncertainty is a healthy way to cope with the stressful profession of nursing.

Blogs are like reading people's personal journals. Some are interesting and some are not. For the most part they seem long and rambling. This is a forum where it would be easy to get sucked in and not get any work done! The nursing blogs are great for people who want to connect and read other people's stories. I do not think that they are a good reference for professional resources, but that may change. The internet is changing all the time and it could be that more professional information will come from them. For now it is mostly entertainment and antecdotal stories.

I also am not familiar with blogs. This was my first time visiting a site like this. I feel these blog sites, like these, could be fun and useful for nurses. They could also help with venting frustrations after a bad day. However, I am not a blog kind of person. I don't even go to chat rooms. But I am sure they could be useful to some people.

I think these blogs are interesting. They are fun to read and remind me of our NUR 605 discussion board. However, unlike the discussion board which I do find useful, I don't think they are very beneficial in education for myself or patients because they are other peoples thoughts.

Well today is the first time that I have ever even read a blogg. However, I do feel that they are a good way for nurses, or others as well, to share their experiences and know that they are not alone in the world. I think that they, are a good way for people to share their thoughts and stories for others to read. I don't feel that bloggs are used for research or education, most of the time it seems that they are more like journal entries inwhich some people can relate to.

Blogs can provide a place for professionals to share stories and provide information on how they have handled situations.

I feel blogs can be weak from a research-based information perspective. I wouldn't just count on blogs providing reliable information.

Blogs could be useful for a basis for discussion, however I feel most blogs are just good for a laugh. It seems like most people just post humerous stories.

I have never visited a blog site before. I imagine that some would be good to network, share suggestions, etc., most seemd like a lot of folks were just venting.
Weaknesses include you could easily getlost among dialoges and spend a lot of time within a blog.

Not really sure what use they have, personally my time is valuable and I don't see any use for them at the moment.

I have never visited a blog site before. I am not sure what it's real purpose is. Probably can be used to network with other professionals in your same profession, build references.

Weakness seems to be a lot of venting, and you could easily find yourself reading aimlessly.

I am not sure what the real usefulness of a blog is---but I value my spare time at the moment and don't see me going to a blog in the near future.

Like some of the other students in our class I am not a regular visitor to blogs. Some of the stories were very funny and insightful, but like some of the others I don't feel that they are very educational. They do give the authors an outlet and some responses to their blogs may help them gather information that will be useful.

I am trying this once again--for some reason my posting is not appearing. Strengths of blogs would be to serve as a networking to share information, current trends in practice etc.,

Weaknesses seems like some blogs are like soap operas--a place to vent and complain---no real use

Not sure what the usefulness of blogs are ---time is precious and at the moment do not see myself using blogs.

As like many of you, this is the first time I've visited a blog too. I enjoyed reading the stories from the Code Blog site, but I'm definitely leary about using any of the information as an educational source. I think these sites are a way to provide a sense of camaraderie with other nurses. It's a way to tell stories and laugh at others. But, if you are looking for something specific to aid in the care of a patient, this is not the place to go. There's no way to gaurantee the accuracy of the information.

This is my first experience with blogs. I didn't find anything beneficial. The strength may be in a common ground of communication, but anything can be written.

I have never posted a blog before. Never had any time and if I did I would be doing something more useful.

I am familiar with blogs on a personal level. A close friend of mine used her's to give updates during her high-risk pregnancy when she was on bed rest. However I have never considered them as a professional tool before. They may be beneficial in the sense that professionals can share experiences or how they handled situations, however there is no real way of knowing who the blogger really is.

Blogs can be entertaining and aid in venting about a particularly weird day at work(We are in the business of strange things that happen to people). Many of the comments are humorous and it helps to know that someone else is going through some of the same craziness you may be at work(or home). Their usefulnes cannot go beyond that, I believe. This is also the first time I have visited a blog.

I hope this is where I/m suppose to go. If not sorry! I have never been on a blog and after reviewing the blogs, I am not interested in blogging. Most are not professional. I don't think it shows the nursing profession in a good light. I would not want the public to see these. The one that I thought was more professioal, I still did not like. I want personal contact with nurses I work with, and talk to them about issues and work to solve those issues.

I don't think that blogs are a strong source for professional communication. I think that they are fine for personal communication or to as a journal to 'let it all out'. I do think that I would find keeping a blog useful as a coping mechinism for work-related stress. I also enjoy reading the blog just to know that there are others who are having some of the same experiences that I have each day.

I tried this post once with no success. I am familiar with blogging but not in the nursing world. I don't have time to read or write blogs but I know many do and find this helpful. I view this more for support or fun. I do not see this helpful in finding accurate information in the professional role.

I think blogging could be useful if communicating and asking questions. We could use the blogs by learning from each other, our experiences and our mistakes. I beleive they could be a useful resource, but could also help you feel connected to other nurses beyond your co workers. It could even lead to new a job in the future through your contacts. I do not visit bloggs regularly. But now that I was introduced to them I may start investigating sites.

I have never participated in a blog until today. I think it is a great way to communicate with other professionals and to gain knowledge from other people. The only weakness I find with blogs, as with any internet source or book, you cannot always believe what you read. You just have to use good judgment and common sense.

I have used various blogs before this class, both for personal use and professional. I use a number of professional blogs mainly for the Navy, Navy PeriOperative nurses, and from the AORN PeriOperative nurses.

I believe that blogs can be very useful as a communication tool as well as a tool for sharing information between other persons/organizations. This is the main reason I would rather use a blog than a ListServ.

This is the first time that I have ever looked at blogs, I looked at more than one becasue I have always heard many people talk about them. After looking at them, I think that they are really nothing more than an electronic diary that other people can read. I expected to get some sort of educational experience out of reading them, which I did not.

Today was the first time I've actually sat down to read a blog. I believe that blogs are useful in the sense that it gives people a way to vent or express themselves. Also, useful to see a different point of view or for a laugh once in a while. Would I sit down & use it myself? I don't have time to read the long forwarded e-mails from my friends so I would doubt that I would be a regular at a Nursing Blog. I visited Head Nurse.

In general I don't feel blogs are very beneficial.

In general I don't feelblogs are used to their best advantage. They could be utilized as tools for regular networking with others throughout the world, or relaying useful information to a number of people with a common interest, but they seem to be mostly used as on-line diaries. I have never seen a blog before this, and enjoyed finding out what all the buzz is about, however. I see they can be very entertaining and foster a feeling of commonality, but in general feel they have little benefit for professional communication.

I found the sites interesting to read, and great if you need someone to vent to, but I am not sure if it would be great on a professional level.

I think for it to benefit professionally, it would need ground rules, and I don't think blogs really have that.
